Sojitz Implements Solar Power Systems at Aeon Mall Sites in Indonesia – SolarQuarter
Sojitz Corporation, in partnership with Aeon Mall Co., Ltd., through its equity method affiliate PT Surya Nippon Nusantara (SNN), is set to install a rooftop solar power system at Aeon Mall BSD City in Indonesia. This initiative, part of Aeon’s broader Decarbonization Vision 2050, aims to transition to CO2-free electricity at Aeon malls by 2025 and promote a local production and consumption model through power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Scheduled to commence operations in January 2024, the solar power project at Aeon Mall BSD City involves the installation of solar panels covering approximately 4,244 square meters on the mall’s roof. With an expected annual output of 1,161 MWh, the system is projected to reduce the mall’s annual CO2 emissions by around 712 tons.
In alignment with Aeon’s vision, Sojitz and Aeon Mall have initiated the installation of another solar power generation system at the upcoming Aeon Mall Deltamas facility, currently under construction and slated to be Aeon Mall’s fifth location in Indonesia.
Aeon Mall’s long-term goal includes achieving 100% energy self-sufficiency through local production and consumption of renewable energy at its directly managed mall facilities in Japan by 2040. In Indonesia, Aeon operates four malls and is committed to actively leveraging renewable energy to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
Sojitz, beyond its rooftop solar power projects, will further its business development in Indonesia through SNN, focusing on areas such as storage batteries, EV-related businesses, energy efficiency services, and zero-emission fuel supply services like hydrogen, ammonia, and biofuel. The company aims to support the decarbonization efforts of its customers by providing comprehensive decarbonized energy solutions.
The collaboration underscores the growing emphasis on renewable energy adoption and sustainable practices in the business operations of major corporations, contributing to the broader global effort towards a more environmentally friendly future.
